I totally get how you feel, ST.

Because, apparently, there's always some sort of "romantic underlying" with a friend, especially if y'all are of the opposite sex. For example, I have a lot of guy friends and I've been called a "whore" and accused with sleeping with all of them because I'm close to all of 'em. Society is fucked like that, I guess. It's ridiculous.

But, like the others have said, as long as both you and your friends acknowledge that your relationship is platonic, then who cares about what other people say?

If some of your friends don't understand what you mean by "I love you", then clarify for them. That just saves a whole load of awkwardness and drama...

Because all affection is sexual yer know :/ I think the ancient Greeks had it right - 3 different words for love, each of them meaning a different thing.
ST, it all depends on your friends - they might be ok with it.

It's a strange twist that society took, isn't it? But it's not entirely out-of-bounds -- it just depends on the friends. Some aren't comfortable with it, which is okay, I mean, everyone is entitled to their feelings.

My friends? They said it to me first. =) Since I was once a shy girl I wouldn't have dared say it myself but they opened me up quite a bit so I say it all the time.

Also, when I don't want to say, "I love you," but I want to give someone love I say, "Much love. <3"

I tell my friends I love them all of the time. :] "I love you", "I love you so much", "from the depth of my heart".... I don't get why some people are so weird with that kind of stuff. :/ If feels nice to hear and say them, and we CARE and ADORE these people.... Maybe you can say to your friends what I do for a certain friend who feels weird with those three words.... I'll tell them "I love you SO MUCH as a friend." If you add "as a friend" at the end, sometimes it makes it less awkwkard.

Sometimes, people just don't get it. But you don't have to care about that xD They shall understand eventually D:

Hells yes!
I love my best friend so much. So damn much. I love her more than anyone. She's more important than anyone. I want to spend every day with her. EVERYONE thinks we're a couple.
But neither of us would want to be anything more than friends ^^ (I'm ace and she's bi, anyway XD)

Everything will be assumed different ways,ST. For there are different kinds of people. So naturally you can't win 'em all.

The only advice to be given is: don't give a flying fuck, let people think what they will. Afterall they're just going to do it anyways.

Very pretty secret (like in appearance) I love the words too!

I don't often say that to my friends, only because I'm teased so much and called a lesbian so much (love my lesbian friends, but I'm straight) that I'm honestly afraid to say it because I'm afraid someone who isn't my friend will overhear and start bullying me again.

One of my friends says it all the time. She's from China, speaks only a little English and doesn't quite know how people see "I love you" around here. I love hearing it from her because it makes me feel good to know I'm her friend but it worries me sometimes

I feel like this with just about all my female friends. I even refrain from complimenting people because I'm afraid it could be misconstrued.

It's the same reason a guy and a girl can't be best friends. People just don't understand that you can love someone without wanting to do him.

Sometimes people don't get it. But if you use the word often enough people will eventually understand that you don't mean it romantically.

....And yet I shout "I love you!!!" across hallways all the time, but still...there are some friend who will take it the wrong way, or others will see it the wrong way...

the trick is to not care, or even clarify.

Dear ST,
We are, but some people tend to make their own rules for society. Just keep saying it, people will probably leave you alone eventually, it worked for me.
Sincerely,
~SK

I hate that. It's like, you can say it in a funny situation, but when you say it seriously, everything gets awkward. It sucks. I do love my friends, but there are different kinds of love.

Me and my friends tell each other we love each other but we don't mean it any other way but friends. At first it seemed strange but I suppose we just treat each other like family!

Me and my friends have an inside joke where its like "I love you. Platonically of course."
Seriously we have no problem saying I love you to each other, because we know it's not romance love.

I've told my friends I love them and they've told me too (and I mean guy friends too, not just girls -- somehow people make less of a big deal out of saying it to a girl if you are a girl because they don't immediately jump to the conclusion that you mean it in a romantic way). =/
