I have a few little scars, I do love the look of them too. I think it depends on where you do it and how you want it to look. Obviously across your wrists like a "cutter" is probably not the best of ideas. I would suggest professional scarification (I'm planing on getting a little bit...possibly a small heart or something).

I find this interesting. I've never self-harmed, but I once considered reopening an old scar so that it'd be more visible. I was disappointed that it was healing over so well.

Each scar I have represents a lesson in my life.

I don't desire a scar, but once it's there I accept it's presence and find it beautiful.

I understand that. Even from the smallest of scratches do I get scars. But, yes, I often found myself picking at my cuts just so they would scar...

I see where the ST is coming from. but isnt it more interesting if you got it from an event not self mutalation? I look at some of my friends scares, the ones that didnt go deep and have turned white. they are beautiful for them it show what they when through and what it to to stop and a reminder to not go there again. but if you are only doing it for the "look" please dont. as other have said with all the suicide scare and emo media publicity you dont want to be court up in it, the scars will be taken the wrong way by any one from the outside or even friends who dont understand. trust me, form some one is sarounded my friends in these situations. you dont wan to be.

If you like the artistic look of scars, it would be better if you got tattoos, piercings, or professional scarification done rather than self injure. Please look into your other options.

If it is just a substitute for tattoos then STOP.

Don't be stupid and selfish and think that they just look cool or artistic (I mean, I do agree that they do, but a lot of people will not get that if they see them). If your family or friends or just people that care about you see them, do you think that they would all understand that or entirely believe that they are just for cosmetic reasons? Don't scare them or freak them out like that, even if you think you may enjoy the attention. There is so much suicide scare going around, you really don't want to give someone the wrong impression. Self-mutilated scars are the weight for many people with problems- don't try to make anything less of them.

I agree completely. But I don't cut only for that, since if I only used that reason I'd feel... bad xD

I'm a little disappointed that several of these comments are promoting cutting.

ST, you don't need to cut. Whether you are doing it for therapeutic reasons or for the aesthetic quality, please seek help and find a better way to cope with your problems.

And if you do it for the aesthetic quality, get tattoos instead.

Totally agree here. Also, these scars can make a lot of situations uncomfortable in the future when/if you've stopped (unless of course you want people to see them). They are also a permanent reminder of hurtful memories. Kindof like reading all the negative entries of a diary every single morning for the rest of your life.

I'm with you. ST, please don't cut! If you really like the look, why not get cool tattoos that look like scars? Or just draw them in with marker pen.

Similar. I don't cut, but I sometimes love it when I get cut, because I want an interesting story to tell.

I must admit I don't SH for the same reasons. However I can see where your coming from about scars. Unfortunately I find they also cause unpleasant situations with other people.

Just remember scars are like tattoos - but scars have better stories.
