A no-longer friend o' mine was scared that Mr. Todd was going to reach up from the depths of under her bed and slit her throat while she was sleeping.

I told her that was impossible since she has no beard, or even minor stubble.

Back to the point, I admire Sweeney too as a person; he has went through many troubles as I have gone through, especially with family necessities. Mrs. Lovett was amusing also.

If I were him, I would've been driven by revenge for a while as well. Underneath that shell of vengeance, he really was a kind, gentle, sincere man.

Oh. And Judge Turpin smells like piss.

I am so obsessed with that movie right now! XD I was singing Green Finch and Linnet Bird LESS THAN 10 SECONDS AGO.
I think this secret was written by my friend, except that she never goes on the internet. It even looks like her handwriting... hmm.
Apart from the slightly psychopathic tendencies, I think Sweeney Todd was admirable. Love above all else.

So do I, in a way. My respect for him as a character went up heaps at the scene where he spares the guy with the family :-) man, if only he had paused for 10 seconds, he'd have recognized johanna at the end. darn.

Could you remind me please, what scene is that? I watched the movie a couple of times now but I'm having trouble placing that particular one.

It's in the reprise of "Johanna," after "A Little Priest."

I never got that. Not just in Sweeney Todd, but ever. Just because someone reproduced at some point in time, his life is somehow worth more? I can see Sweeney Todd having a problem with Turpin, but he did not need to brutally murder scores of men who had done nothing to him.

You know, I'm with you. He stood up for his family, he did quite literally everything he could towards avenging them, and while he did go slightly *cough* insane, I don't think anyone can fully hold that against him. He was a strong character, I rather liked him. :aww:

hm. slightly insane? you say that as if its a bad thing! I understand sweeney todd through and through, even the madness. I don't know whether that would be the case with all personification of sweeney todd, but I do know that the person johnny depp plays is somebody I can identify myself with. and yes: if your wondering: I COULD kill innocents in cold blood.

Hey, no argument from me. ^^ Personally, I'm not sure I'd actually be capable of going so far as to kill people... *would panic at the thought of punching someone* But if something happened to someone I love... Well, I certainly see where you're coming from.

Ah, the usual sort of thing: betrayed, abandoned, ignored, not realizing a chance I had, and getting my feelings squashed to death by someone who didn't even notice. Not usually something romantic, but I've been heart broken before.
