Strangely, I do know what you mean. But if something does happen, waiting to see if they will come can be hell. I only spent the one night in hospital but with all the snoring and coughing that alone was too much, then the hours waiting to see if anyone would come and see me was agonising.
He did come, as soon as was physically possible (even got in with the 'rest only' sign up), and stayed until I was discharged, but the wait, or if he hadn't come... Too hard to even think about

This sounds like me. Sometimes I have the urge to throw myself under a bus, and see how much everyone would care. To see who my real friends are. But I know it's ridiculous.
