This was exactly how I felt a few months ago, ST.

Since then, we've had countless fights about why we've even put up with each other at all ... and we don't even consider each other friends anymore.

We still talk, and we still have a history ... friends and enemies and all that in cmmon ... but we've fficially "broken up" as best friends.

Life has never been better.

Go for it, ST. You don't need to pretend to be someone you're not just to please that person. Especially if they're not going to make an effort to please you back.

I feel this way all the time now...stop sympathizing for your self for once and think of some one else....I still haven't told her that my Great grand Mother died because I know she'll just pretend to be sorry and go back to being self centered.

Maybe, I'm the friend.

Get away from her...or I think maybe you'll even want to destroy her, and you will start to loathe yourself!

If you don't talk to her about that, it will start killing you inside, really. I'm having an experience like that.

Haha, same, you always get that niggling doubt.

I don't think it's you or me, but I feel sorry for the person that ST has targeted slightly... It's not nice to pretend.

True that XD But yeah, as weird as it sounds, I think its kinder to admit to someone's face that you don't like them anymore than to pretend you do and backstab. But at the same time, if the person is as shallow as they appear in this secret, it doesn't seem like they'd be too bothered.

If she's as horrible as you say, then the best thing you can do is get away from her. Pretending to like her is only enabling her. And why would you want to do that?
Do you have masochistic tendencies? Does being around her make you feel good about yourself because you're not as horrible as she is? Or are you pretending to like her for some sort of revenge plot for her backstabbing?
Maybe you should really think about why you still pretend to like her and seek out healthier relationships. If it's the former you should seek out some sort of help or you could potentially end up in abusive relationships. If it's either of the latter... well, try looking the mirror and figuring out what the difference is between you and your "friend."

If you're scared of leaving her then you should tell someone, family, other friends, a therapist maybe. Being around her doesn't sound healthy for you and could turn you into something you don't like.

Don't ';pretend' to be her friend. If she is a ';psychotic bitch', staying friends with her will only make her think that her behaviour is acceptable. Which it isn't.

I had the same problem, but I told her off.
She hates me, but I feel so much better having one more burden off my back.
But, I have a bunch of other people I can't stand that consider themselves "Friends."
=/
I don't get along with anybody at my school. I'm too weird, too ugly, and too awkward.

I've got three friends like that...
One can't keep a secret, spreads rumors about me and others, is really slutty and hangs with the druggies and guys I told her weren't good at all, and if you tell her a secret, she'll twist it and start a rumor with it...
The other, is very 'abusive', she always hits me, kicks me, whatever and laughs about it even though I told her it's not funny and to cut the shit. And she ignores me when there's a guy she likes around, always complains about her life even though it's a very good life and a lot better than mine, and follows me and my other friends around everywhere and acts like were besties...
And the last one is over dramatic, goes out with guys she 'loves' even though the one cheated on her and the other is a dirtbag and pretty much raped someone I know, and she's always complaining about her life and saying she's 'emo' when she's so very far from it...

I'd do what I am, I'm just talking to them a lot less, and when they do something that I don't like (such as hitting me or complaining about their life) I tell them to knock it off, or to stop complaining, that their life is a lot better than mine and a lot of people...

You're probably hurting her more now than you would be if you cut your ties with her. If you're just pretending to like her you should sever your ties to her.

I'm in a similar situation.

After months of worrying and avoiding the situation because I knew very well she wouldn't like it, I came out as bisexual to my 'best friend' when she was 16 and I was barely 14.
She was considerate enough to completely ignore me for the rest of the day, called me an 'unnatural freak' and gave me a letter that said; "Why didn't you tell me sooner?? I thought you were my best friend?! You and your girlfriend have made me so upset I'm thinking of leaving the school!!"

... needless to say, I didn't like being spoken to like that. :3 She thinks everything's sunshine and daisies... but the fact is: she's a spoilt, immature, backstabbing hypocrite and I'm not silly enough now to get emotionally attatched to somebody like that. Even if I don't want a confrontation about it.

ST, I really feel for you, darling. All I can suggest is that if you're able - emotionally or otherwise - to get out of it, do so, but if not, make sure you've got other people around who make you feel wonderful.

You know, me and my "best friend" have known each other for 8 years. I thought she was "the one", that special person you can always trust, you can always talk to. And after 8 years of confidences, laughs and tears, she disappeared. She didn't want to talk with me, she didn't want to see me, and at first I just COULDN'T forget about her because I'm NOT as miserable as her.
At first I thought it was my fault until I fell sick because of all those stupid feelings. And I realized that someone that's supposed to be that special, should NEVER do that kind of thing, so I've left her behind and I'm proud of myself.
The problem? If my family asks me how she's doing, I answer that I haven't talked to her for a long time -I even show concern!- instead of saying that I don't even want to hear about her pitiful, disgusting person. The reason? Well... I've been betrayed so many times that I don't even want to accept that it has happened again!
You know that she's not worth your time nor your concern, and you have the opportunity to see her. Leave her behind before she does! It might sound cruel and subjective, but that kind of people doesn't deserve your attention.
