For me that's kind of the contrary. I was always telling :
"Do this, you've got talent ! why don't you do it !"
And I have fight so much to do something else, but I realise now that maybe it wasn't the good choice, I keep failing in what I'm trying to do now and I'm asking now if I didn't have to do what I was adviced to do before because, now, it's what I dream to do because I miss it so much... And maybe or very very soon, it will be too late.

Most people with 'talent' become slaves to the hordes of untalented people. It's sort of like a system, and it keeps my jealousy of the talented ones in check! :D

"become slaves"? because they CHOOSE to. talent of one person belongs to them solely, they CANNOT be forced to use their talent for someone else if they DO NOT WANT TO. so i don't see why people even complain about this- if you DON'T want to draw for other people, then STOP doing it.

I think a famous person once said "Do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life" ^^ basically do whatever makes YOU happy and even if you earn profit of it you'll never be unhappy

To see "only" and "talented" in the same sentence... -.-
Talents give you something to live for. If you're passionate about what you do.
Be grateful for what you've got. The only person making you suffer is you.

... Technically, slaves don't receive payment for services rendered... We're probably talking about a different job, but it's not really one that can be discussed on DA.

People need to stop bitching that no-one has empathy because they criticize this secret.

I mean, holey. Shet. That guy has a fucking JOB. He can earn his money. Do you KNOW how hard it is to get a job nowadays? He should be thankfull he can pay his bills already!

And if he doesn't like what he's doing now, he should start flipping burgers. Oh wait, that's no fun either? Then stop complaining.

You can make choices in your life and you don't have to follow your talent. I used to think that not persueing my talent would provide me with the most money and a stable life but eventually I just took the artsy path anyway, because I would be doing what I love and what I can. See that? I changed my perspective; because I didn't want to persue a future that wouldn't make me happy. I changed my path and made different choices.

And no I'm not a speshul snowflaek who happens to have the amazing talent or freedom to make choices; Every human being CAN. You have a BRAIN. USE IT.

"Booohoooo I'm making money paying my bills and I have a roof over my head, while all I have to do is draw, booohoooo! I'm such a slave because I need money! Boohoo!"

Everyone is a slave of money/work in the end...

I can't imagine complaining about being paid for drawing

Stop drawing then, and find something else to do with yourself; no one is forcing you to draw o_o.
This seems more like a complaint than a secret, especially since this is a free will situation.

I can almost completely understand this. My parents want to make me run because I am good at it. No matter what I tell them, they keep trying to get me to do it. I personally want to join the swim team and go into theater.

Anyway, I don't think I could honestly give you good advice at what to do (I can barely figure out what to do myself). My best suggestion is to ease off of it. Get a part-time job, take an online college course and get a degree. Slowly, stop drawing so that the transition isn't as hard.

This is just an artist who is being an Emo. Is something that they think they are trapped with but they could Easily just stop. they Draw for money and Slaves don't get anything for what they do. I work for money I don't like My Job at times but I'm not a slave I do it because I need money and if this person doesn't need the money they could easily stop. If its for the money then its a Job not slavery. Best way to look at this is that they have the "Talent" to do something to make money and they are good at it. This is not far of Bragging really "People pay for my drawings but I'm not that interested in what I do I'm just that good" is what they are really saying.

I went through this for awhile. But now, I have decided I am better than what people want me to do, because I am ME. I am UNIQUE. And I am not afraid to say that I will die remembered. For me, for my personality, and for my art. But if you hate this, try going at something new. Let yourself unwind, until you know what you want AND let what you want and do be what others want from you. Good luck, ST.

If you think your a slave to your talent then you are a fool. My one and only talent is in music, but I decided that I wanted to get into animation. With no talent I was forced to accrued skill one try at a time. But I made it through.

I sort of understand this. I wouldn't like to become a professional at drawing, because then I would have to change my style and draw only things others want me to and probably get complaints if it's not fashionable. I would rather do a cleaning job than sell that part of my soul to the industry and draw in my free time. In fact, I figure freelancing as an average graphic designer or an artist can pay as much as a cleaning job or less if you can't manage to find employment and drain all your energy from the work that you used to do that had a deeper significance.

Oh, he has a job! How horrible! I worked as a city sweep on minimum wage for 3 years now while I have a college education. Don't talk to me about a crappy job if you don't have to pick up used heroin syringes and therefore risk infection with aids for a living.

This is an interesting confession. Art is seen as a field where only the passionate exist but this confession shed light that just like there are some people good at numbers and hate their accounting job, there are some good at art and hate their job as well just cause it pays the bills.

hmm.. i think that person really need money, so she/he draw everyday..
but, making something in pressure makes the person hate it
and she/he get a depression, and think what she/he do makes her/him a slave :(
in other words, she/he is the slave of money

''I'm a slave because I am talented''
This is a first world problem right here...
This person should stop act like such a baby and just get another job if this doesn't fit. Grow up I say.

Why do you say he/she in every sentence? It becomes annoying when guys/girls/humans/animals talk like that only to be equal to other men/women/girls/boys because it interrupts the sentence that he/she/it writes. I'm sure no one would misunderstand if you just said ''the person'' or ''he'' or just ''she''.

"People are dying in war and here you are, complaining about getting money." - [link] fallacious argument
"Compassion is the understanding or empathy for the suffering of others and helping them to come out from the suffering." - [link] It's what you are doing, giving them advice except in a conceited, rude way. If the purpose of your commenting is not help or advice, then we can say that you are here for yourself only, to beg for attention.

Not everyone has the same level of English knowledge. The correct and simplest choice would be 'they' anyway.
Reply
:iconvajrasana:

Actually, "they" is incorrect because it is plural and the writer is singular. If the gender is unknown, it is correct to assume one gender and call the writer "she" or "he" consistently or to just write "the author".

It's not a spam link or whatever, it's the wikipedia entry about the singular use of 'they'.

"Though singular they is widespread in everyday English and has a long history of usage, debate continues about its acceptability" From the very article you linked me. I still hold that it's incorrect because "they" implies that there is more than one person. If you'd like we can debate if it's proper or not, but we'll likely disagree in the end.

If you really want to use a singular gender-neutral pronoun other than "it" you could go ahead and use some of these proposed alternatives [link]

The major reasons most grammarians find "they" to be acceptable is because it is gender balanced and is a better alternative to "he or she". It's trying to avoid using a default masculine pronoun (what was prescribed by 18th century grammarians), but you could just as easily default to a female pronoun, switch to the imperative, remove the pronoun, or use an article instead, when faced with an unknown gender before simply changing to "they".

We have enough information to know that there is only one author. We do not have enough information to know the gender of the author. Why should we compromise the information we do have to conform to the information we don't?
