Do I have a separate personality that came alive in the middle of the night and did this one or what? This is me almost exactly, even the picture kinda looks like me. Crazy.

Nice to see that whoever's monitoring the comments is a great, stinking pustule of cowardice who can't handle negative feedback. I suppose they like the views, favourites and attention without having to suffer any of that pesky old truth getting in the way of having their egos stroked.

No sir, I am hiding comments that are abusive to the people and secrets that they submit because that's uncalled for. You're welcome to take your issues up with me privately, but this is supposed to be a safe place to submit secrets, so I hide certain comments for the sake of submitters. I'm personally fine with negative feedback, honestly, I just don't want it directed towards submitters, whom we have no idea what they are going through, and don't deserve to be the object of your malice. There is also a difference between negative "feedback" and comments that are purely abusive and are in no way helpful.

If you truly care so deeply about what your submitters are going through, perhaps you should stop heedlessly equating such serious terms as 'abuse' and 'malice' with my jokey comment about someone's hair looking like spaghetti.

I wanna give some insight to those who don't get it. Depression can sometimes amplify simple things and emotions and make them feel bigger, sometimes impossible. Watching a sad movie can leave you crying for hours uncontrollably or sometimes trying to even smile can be as difficult as climbing a steep, rocky hill with no shoes. Being unable to put effort into something as simple as erasing and rewriting a word doesn't make them beyond help, acknowledging their simple mistake could have the potential to discourage them from even finishing it let alone submitting it and opening the door to rejection, criticizing and just general negative ignorance. So the fact they submitted it with imperfect qualities suggests this person is either brave enough to take what comes their way or just doesn't care cause they just want their feeling out there while the motivation strikes, maybe in hopes that someone will care enough to give a kind word. But a lot of people do not understand that, what depression really is and what it can do to a person. It's so much more complex than being "sad" and as some people say "lazy". THAT is where i get upset with people who judge them incorrectly. People can be very ignorant and unkind and it just hurts cause sometimes even a simple hello in a friendly tone can help perk a person up to the point where they CAN simply erase and rewrite and not feel afraid but no one cares enough to try...sorry for ranting on like that >.< I just wish people were more open-minded and kindhearted...

I'm not sure if anyone will read this, but for those slinging all the negative feedback on the drawing itself...

DeviantArtSecret was always focused on the message more than the presentation. The only reason this stuff makes front page is because of the new category system. To give negative feedback on this piece's visual qualities is kind of like flipping open someone's diary and criticizing any doodles that litter the page.

People don't normally publish their diaries though this person published this voluntarily, so that analogy doesn't really work.

Let people criticize whatever they want, if submitter wasn't open to critique and other people's opinions they could have chosen to close the comments section like many DAS submitters do.

That opinion is super ignorant. This person wanted to express his/her feelings though it. It's obviously not meant for skill criticism.

It's stupid imo to focus on that when the person is sad for loneliness

My comment wasn't in concern of the contributer, but for the commentors. A lot of people are hurt/offended/etc when they see this stuff make front page and their own art (or that of artists they like) do not. Their effort to give feedback and whatnot is most likely going to waste, since the contributor probably doesn't care either way, and this deviation probably didn't get here because of any show of skill, but because of the category it was submitted to — that's the idea behind my analogy.

I see your point, totally and I agree it's not because of the art but because is in the DAS category  . Though at least I feel this person -even with the spelling errors- put more effort in their submission than most DAS submissions to be honest.
Thank you for clarifying.

I don't normally comment on stuff like this, but these negative commenters are just ridiculous.
Art like this doesnt have to be perfect. It's someone pouring out their feelings. Their 'secrets'. One individual person and how they feel. This person obviously spent their time and effort on this, and all the shitty commenters talking about how the anatomy is wrong, things are misspelled, whatever, aren't going to make this person feel better about their situation. -3-
And the people saying how unoriginal this is, most of these secrets aren't very original.
Get over yourselves.
Seriously people.

Proper annunciation and spelling are important if you want to draw attention to your art and want it to be taken seriously. And that does seem to be the point for most of these. When you fail to spell your words properly, you subconsiously send out a message that you don't really care about proper spelling or what others think of it, thus they are more inclined to view the art as boorish and uneducated.
This will spark negative comments about it, which will only worsen the situation of whoever posted the art. Something that would not have happened, had they simply bothered to write (or check) their wording properly. It's a small thing that requires little effort, but can save you a lot of grief in the end.
This may seem irrelevant and might be viewed as 'nitpicking' but judging by the amount of people that have replied negatively about it already, I think my point is made.

I'm not saying that you shouldn't care about your annunciation and spelling in an art piece. Hell, I completely agree to what you're saying.
But this is DeviantArtSecret. They don't tend to focus on the presentation of each piece that comes in, but by the message that's given through it. It should be treated more like a diary page than a piece about to be hung on the wall in a gallery or museum.

That still does little to abate the frustrations of artists that fail to get much recognition for their work, despite working harder on them then some of the DaS posters.
I do understand that the fault does not lie with the users of DeviantArtSecret, but with the administrators who decide on how it works. These are people who are simply seeking to reach out and vent (or possibly seek help), but they should be able to do so without stepping on the toes of those that come here to work on their art. This is something that should be looked into, if you ask me, but not something either group has much influence over, so for the time being, they'll just have to make do with the way it works now.

That's very true. It's just frustrating that people are so critical about something that isn't there to be criticized about how it looks.

Maybe DaS just didn't make a good choice with picking DeviantART. Who knows. I just think the commenters should be a little bit more understanding.

Because the commenters do, but dA is the kind of place where if your art isn't godly, MLP, or desu then you're not pretty much not accepted. Which is quite unfortunate.

Also, I've already taken those lessons! They are quite helpful. (◡‿◡✿)

Cool! From my perspective, dA has always been crazy accepting of poor art. c[: I guess it depends on your standards and whatnot: By 'poor' I don't mean vomit-inducing terrible, just has several basic areas that need improving. Like broken anatomy, mucky shading, or something. It won't get many (if any) comments pointing them out. Compared with art class that is cushy as a cushion fight in marshmallow-ville. [:

I've never seen dA as a place to go and get decent critiques, too many I see are just five stars everywhere. What's the point in a critique if you rate everything five stars?(;T⌓T)

I agree it's definitely not a place I would go if I needed things that are seriously gritty (not teenage angst) or specifically non-anime, or of interesting emotional depth. Not that it doesn't exist around here, it's just hard to find because it doesn't mesh with the popular likes of the community so doesn't rise up much.

haha, I love humon. What I said was just a generalization. People that draw simple humorous comics tend to get relatively popular, too. I'm pretty sure humon got most of her popularity from the SatW comics. (some of her first SatW comics started when Hetalia began, and that's how me and my friends found her;;; )
People that do. and she has a nice, clean, simple style, which draws people in. Like Tom Preston is another example that popped into my head (though he has a lot of haters now because of his personality but yeah...).

If you don't wanna see it, what are you doing here!!? It's so easy to not see what you don't want to see!

Yeah, truly! Click on "popular 8 hours!" I switch them up anyway so I get access to more great artwork than if I left it on the default (whatever that is these days, I don't even remember). Follow your own idea of great artists and check your messages!

Otherwise, it is preeeetty easy to just glance over it and move on. You can even see "secret" in the title and go "WHOA! NOT WHAT I WANT AT ALL!," have a mad little avoidance dance party in your head, and then move onto the crazy masterpiece near it that gets your artistic jubies movin'.

It is deviantART.com, not fineARTsnootfest.com. Naw mean? If you haven't noticed yet, this site is (this is a wild estimate) 40% My Little Pony, 5% Anthropomorphism doodles, 1% finely polished artworks, and 80% teenagers who want to express the emotions they bottle up and save for the pencil. Those don't equal 100%, I know, lol.. they're not exclusive of each other.

I like the way that DAS is going, finally. It has a more creative approach to it.
Granted, there are typos, and the anatomy makes everyone cringe a tad, (I feel as if I'm staring at the child of a human and an ostrich couple) but it's still a nice attempt.
