Isn't that how friendship works? I call my best friend a cunt all the time, and she calls me a whore. :) Part of being friends is making fun of each other mercilessly.

I get the feeling you'd fit right in with my friends.

You know, honestly, I am the nicest person with all my friends. But with my best friend, well, we are both very argumentative and disagreeing with each other. But in the end, we kind of feel better and know that we will always be friends. XD But there is nobody else I act like that with

I don't think so...

Being honest or even blunt means you care about someone enough to tell them something difficult which needs to be said.
Being rude means you're just disrespectful and uncaring and you're going to hurt people this way.

Hm, from what I understand you have a problem expressing your feeling freely

that's why you are being rude, that's your way to show affection.

but you have to understand that some people are sensitive that you could lose them because of that.

Just show them between time and other that you care!

I think it's good to have a level where you can joke around with your friends, bring up touchy subjects, or even occasionally straight be a dick to them. On the other hand, many people take this way too far. I myself do this, but know when to stop, and know when my friends need to be complimented and boosted up. I would not keep you as a friend if you were only rude to me, and never complimented me.

I'm honestly not sure why this is a secret. These friends of yours...do they know you consider them a friend? Those who are rude to me are the LAST people I'd consider a friend, personally. And that's coming from someone who loves sarcasm and whose friends find her sarcasm relatively entertaining.

I get that everyone has their own way of doing things, but treating people you like as if you didn't is...rather juvenile. As if there's something wrong about being nice.

As some others have said, there's a difference between insulting a friend who KNOWS you're joking, and just being flat-out rude. Without knowing you, ST, I can't say for sure which category you fall under. But for everyone's sake, I hope it's the former.

I've done this kind of thing before...a long, long time ago. I even wrote that when I said "I hate everything about you and I never want to see you again", I meant "...please don't leave me, I'm vulnerable, I've tried to say I was sorry, but you walked away..."

Irreverence is not rudeness. Telling someone jokingly to fuck off is very different from saying go fuck yourself and die and meaning every word of it. Or breaking their ankle in one instance.

This secret was probably written by someone who still fails to grasp either the English vocabulary or a good understanding of how society works. I sincerely hope it's the former.

Seeing all of these comments I can clearly see that most people don't know the difference between rude and joking around/being sarcastic/being honest.

Being rude is punching someone or hurting someone and not saying sorry. Or saying things so bluntly they hurt others.

Being rude is NOT cursing/using insults/sarcasm around your friends; those are NOT ill-willed and NOT said to hurt your friends ON PURPOSE. Those are ways of joking around!

Rude usually involves someone getting mentally or physically hurt on purpose or without an apology.

You cannot make me believe in any kind of way that hurting others on purpose or without an apology can make long lasting relationships.

Thank you. This needs to be said. Irreverence is not rudeness, particularly when there is a mutual understanding between both parties.

I dislike how everyone else is taking this.
If someone is rude just because they like you, that could be because they don't know how else to show their affection.
I've had a person love me, but he was a total asshole alot of times. Turns out he's had a hard life, not to mention a recent skull injury. He's a very nice person now and a good friend.
Point is, you just need to teach these people the right way to show affection, because at times it's not their fault.

It's also a thing boys tend to do. They're rude to girls they actually like. That one I don't understand, even if they're having a good life, I just don't understand how that one works. :o

Love your enemy. They just might love you back, but don't know how to say it.

Your anecdote is just an extreme case and it STILL doesn't excuse this type of behavior. Having a behavioral problem is not fixed by telling other people to "understand" your made up reasons for your shitty attitude. The only way you can improve as a human being is owning up to your flaws and making an effort to change. Don't be an enabler.

Alright, I had to rewrite this so I didn't sound like an asshole. xD

It does not excuse this kind of behavior, I agree. But, I prefer to give people one last chance BY trying to understand them. If it turns out they lied, then the gloves are off.

I probably should have added that to make myself not sound like an enabler. ^^

Anyways, people do have these reasons, but even if they do, that does not stop me from kicking or blocking/ignoring them mentally as a response. It takes me quite a bit to forgive someone, but I'm not the kind of person that holds a grudge very well. But I at least try to understand why they're doing this a little to uproot the situation, otherwise I'm just being a jerk too. Again, that does not stop me from kicking and/or blocking/ignoring with my own free will.

But yes, I do try to teach people to work on their own flaws, while trying to remember my own flaws and work on those. The beauty of a human being is that there is always room for improvement, but only if you actually choose to learn from your mistakes. A confession like this can open the gateway for that, or it's a chance to become even more hated. I prefer to expect the best, and if I'm painfully disappointed, that means the nice guy gloves are off. :)

Sorry for my fragmented...ness...I'm tired and forget to think about what other people think in the morning. :grump: Basically I'm an idiot in the morning. Either that or an idiot all the time. :dummy:

OOOH, and could you tell me what anecdote means? I'm sorry. xD I just remembered that I know nothing of that word, and should probably learn about it before it bites me in the butt later.

Sorry.

Sometimes being honest requires a little rudeness. Because even when you like someone there are moments when you just have to say something negative. Being all positive, kind and sweet all the time is not what being honest is about. :)
