Experiment and try things but maybe if it is hard take a break and then come back to art.

I know it's hard, but maybe you should not care so much about whether other people care or not? I mean, not to sound horribly cruel, or anything, but no one is obligated to pay any attention to anyone else just to feed the other's ego... if you feel that the only reason you're into art is to get attention from others, maybe you should not be, or try to find another reason to do it... or work really hard, so that people have more of a reason to pay attention... you gotta earn it, I guess, not just expect it to come with the territory... sorry if I came off a bit harsh, but I just find it incredibly sad... art's kind of just one of those things you gotta do a lot of thankless, unnoticed work on for a while before you reach a point where things start happening, and as the artist, it can be frustrating, because it's hard to tell if you're even moving forward at all, because most of the time, you're your own worst critic, having spent as much time as you have with your work... it can be hard to see the good in it. Truthfully, I don't think any good artist ever thinks to theirself, "well, this is it, I can't possibly improve". You gotta have passion for the art, the making of the art, the expression, the creative process, et cetera... if not, then...
Again, I don't mean to sound insensitive or anything (just look at the little icon with the foam hand!), but really, there are better reasons for making art, and better methods of making people take notice of you. Like most things, it's only pointless if you don't find a point in it... Good luck, and I hope you find what you're looking for... (and remember, this is only an opinion of some stranger on the internet. I know nothing about you other than what is expressed in the secret, and am probably making assumptions. But you can take this to heart if you want. Your choice).

You might not see it but you really improve with everything you create. It just takes time, these are small steps. But you climb the ladder! Believe in yourself, please :)

Create your own style! Even if you do something in a cartoony way, but it's supposed to be a magesric one, don't forget about the colors! They add to the mood, making it seem dark or light!

You took a brave step to share this with us. But talk to someone you trust about this as well, if you can and have someone to talk to.

The beauty of art...is that it is an expression of yourself

And since you wrote this and you admit that you need help, something tells me there's still something in you that wants to hold on still.

I'm a writer (and I draw a little on the side as well)
But I haven't drawn anything in a long time, and I haven't had any inspiration to write anything whatsoever. But you know, that's okay, because when there is something in me that I need to let out, I know I can let it out through my art. Maybe we both just need to find our quiet places where we can just stay and be at peace with ourselves for a while. My place is on the shore of a little blue mountain lake, I'll lay down in the heather and just stay there forever, the stars and moon will come out in reflections on the lake and maybe if I'm lucky I'll see aurora borealis.. that's where I'll find myself, and that's where I'll know, that the only thing to express in my art more beautiful and intricate than the world, is me.

So where's your place? Find it.

(:

Don't give up, I know how you feel and it can be really disheartening to think no one is interested in something that's so important to you, but you have to do what makes you happy, and if that's drawing them keep at it! You'll gain more skill and experience as you go so keep your chin up! :-)

You shouldn't give up on what you love. Have you ever heard of "Don't give up on someone(or something) you can't go a day without thinking about?" That's your situation and I promise you, if you keep drawing it'll improve and take you somewhere personally. I used to hate how I drew, but I've improved. I never showed anyone my art but until they saw it guess what? They praised me! Do what you love and what you love will be sought out. Don't give up, okay? ^^

Hey, you shouldn't worry about what other people think. If drawing is something you like to do, then stick to it! You shouldn't have to stop something you love because other people have a problem with it or don't care at all.

I know how you feel, though. I've felt like my art doesn't mean anything to anyone else. But then I reminded myself that I draw because it's fun, and now I could never imagine giving that up.

So don't give up! Just keep trying! And if you feel like art isn't something you want to strive to do, no worries! No one's forcing you to draw~ Just do whatever you want to do! ^^

There are a lot of people out there that will try to discourage you and yes a lot of them are family members. I am working towards my bachelors degree in animation and I still have people asking me if I would rather do something more "productive" like become a lawyer. It doesn't feel too hot when you have people who try to steer you away from what you want to do. The one thing you have to remember is it's YOUR dream not theirs. They had their chance to follow their dream. Now its your turn. I believe you have all the potential in the world. However it is for you to decide what you want to do with it. I suggest you go online. You will be surprised how many jobs are offered to art majors. And don't worry about those people who put you down, because they may be jealous of what you got. And as for wanting better results I suggest practicing realism. You are going to go far. Don't let anyone tell you otherwise.

No need to force the guy/girl if he/she has no actual passion in the art field, or it will be just unheathly for him/her.

I also strongly advice to avoid doing the "people are jealous of you" (& "ignore the haters") thing, considering how much untrue (and kind of naive-thinking) it is. People, that are not from your circle of family or friends, are not going to give you flowers or any respect if you don't truly deserve it. That's how the real world works.

Of course, the community in Deviantart will always praise whatever you're going to do, no matter the quality, or defend you against legit critiques like some rabid fans. DeviantArt is a bad place for artistic development, to be honest, which often leds people ending like that anon in this deviation.

I apologize for the confusion. I only meant that this individual should follow their dreams whatever they may be. As for the "haters" I was only trying to get the point across that there will be trails in life but if it is something that you are truly passionate about then you should not let hurtful words discourage you from following your dreams. Please do not think that I look at the world with rose tinted glasses, all I am saying is that if you have a dream you should follow it. It doesn't matter who you are or where you come from. You have as much of a chance as anyone else does at making a dream into a reality. I thank you sir/ madam for the crique on my comment. Without it I probably would have confused others with my intentions on writing that remark. I thank you again and wish you a very nice day :)

Psh, lawyer is one of the least, how to put this, lawyer has the least gain out of any degree necessary job I can think of. Managers at McDonald's now make as much as the average lawyer. There is an over abundance of lawyers right now, however with animation, miles of road in either direction for you to work in.

When it comes down to it doing what you love is all that matters :D I really don't have any issues with lawyers it's just not what I can see myself doing in a few years :P animation has really captured my interest in a way that nothing else has been able to. And plus to do something to that magnitude would be the most amazing thing in the world :D

I'd imagine. Getting something to come out even close to how you envisioned it is amazing so I can't even imagine how amazing it would be to have an entire movie, series, or even just an episode come out how you want it to.

Feeling of no improvement after giving your best is what I believe as a turning point in your growth as an artist. It's a sign that you've done everything you can and you need to march forward to something new.

For example you're currently stuck in your proportion, it means that this is your limit right now, move on and focus on coloring technique, etc. You can always come back to the previous subject later on and realize that you can actually do more in it

I understand that feedback is crucial and gaining recognition is the most challenging part of being an artist. If your work is not phenomenal enough to be automatically noticed by people, why not just grab some people you trust to directly criticize your work? Worked for me :)

An advice from fellow learner, hope it helps you, ST :sun:

I have felt that way before too, and if it matters enough to you, chase after your passion with all that you are, because you and your passions are worth it. Keep on and keep practicing, it'll get better soon, and if not better, definitely different.

Never quit. All artists were once amateurs. Trust me, Im not that good either, but Im still going because I want to get better. Keep studying new techniques and apply them. Also, find your style. I mean, think about Pablo Picasso. He made art so simple, a kindergartener could've copied his work. Never, ever give up. Art is whatever you make it.

First of all, OP, you need to find some aspect of art that gets your engine goin again. Or surround yourself with people that inspire you, whether that is in real life or online.

Second, and I'm going to come off as a pretentious asshole here, but I hate how these confessions take up a spot on the front page. It's obviously unavoidable since so many people are involved with it, but I really wish they were at least more pleasing to the eye. Typography goes a loooong way, people. Heck, even a color scheme! Design-seeds.com have some fabulous color palettes, I mean it's not that hard to make these look halfway decent!
