Ugh. I know EXACTLY how that feels :/
I used to have a place to call home....it was the longest i've ever lived in any house. My little sister was born there.
And ever since we were kicked out by the new landlords, every small place that starts to feel like home to me is taken away not long after.

And i've had some pretty strange places that felt like home..... :s

I really question the therapeutic value of submitting these to DA, as they are almost certain to be ridiculed. A good chunk of these are in the same theme: "I don't feel like I belong", "I'm lonely", "I'm depressed" etc... If these people actually have psychological problems, an anonymous post here will most likely not help them, and if it's just an attempt to get on the front page, riding the angst-pop wave, it's pathetic. Just my 5 cents. And my best to those actually going through tough times.

I really wonder why people make that much of a problem about this.
Isn't it a good thing people can express theirselves in some way?
It is proven to be a good way to cope with stuff, why do you think psychologists are for?

And so what if it gets on the front page?
There is some serious crap up there. If it's about the artistic side:
I find this far more artistic than all the pornographic content that gets up there.

Beside this is deep and poetic, it's a true feeling. Not all poems rhyme or are long.
And the fonts are even used by known artist *sigh*

Some people should really find a hobby that doesn't involve annoying/hurting other people.

You people are terrible. Shut up and dont be ridiculous. Just because you dont like something or dont think it should be where it is doesnt mean you have the right to be fucking derogatory about EVERYTHING. Some people share their feelings through drawing, others through words and things like this. There are sections within submission for this stuff for a reason... anyway. Bottom line. Dont be a fuck and think that youre entitled to be a fucking dickbag because youre on the internet. Sorry about the swearing, but it is what it is. Im sick of seeing this community rip itself apparent. Man up and shut up.

Anyway, i totally understand the feeling behind this... i feel it more than i want to.

Seriously, people? This person didn't demand they're secret get on the front page, they just submitted their own secret. I am utterly horrified at all the comments below. We should be supporting this secret and this DeviantArt group. No! Instead everyone's throwing a tantrum because "OMG! THIS MADE IT ON THE FRONT PAGE!" My God! Shut your trap and learn to be a bit considerate for crying out loud. My faith in humanity is dropping because of you jealous trolls.

As for the actual piece, I am quite pleased it made it to the front page. Everyone is now more aware of the group and the secret, which I find to be a success. Also, I rather enjoy the simplicity of this piece. The words speak for themselves, and the various fonts add to their meaning. I applaud the secret writer for having the courage to release their secret to DA. I appreciate what you have said here, and I am sure you will find your home :)

I hate when these silly secrets make front page, I can understand the person of the group but they just get flooded with this two second "let me use as many fonts as possible" text on a plain back ground. I would rather see poetic secrets up here and not this crap

this is objectively terrible and i cannot believe this made it to the very top of the front page

you can't even pay attention to the "secret." the garbage typography is so distracting that i had to focus VERY hard to even register what it said. and all that effort went to waste because the message is just angst so vague that it's generically relatable

What you're doing is an incredibly nice idea. Your presentation, however, is inarguably terrible. The font choice couldn't be more "soccer mom". There are so many design failures here that I almost feel like you're intentionally making a terrible image as a lesson to graphic designers.

I'd recommend at the very least investing in Photoshop to put some transparent text on an inspiring image. I'd also recommend you take some online classes on design to figure out how to improve. Then I'd feel slightly better about seeing this as the top popular picture.

(Also: How the hell is this the top popular picture? Art is subjective so all art belongs, but this could still benefit from a make over)

Design doesn't really matter. It's the meaning behind the letters.

Also, one doesn't need a high priced program like Photoshop. There's Gimp and Photoplus SE that does the EXACT same thing PS does, if a person knows what to do. Transparent text is soooo easy! Doesn't require classes at all. Nothing does. Just look up a good tutorial on the internet and there you have it kiddies. Or play around with the program yourself. That's how I got good.

Artistic expression is of course free, and of course it's open to any interpretation.

That being said, the meaning in the words clearly suffers from the horrid presentation. It adds nothing to the artwork; it only detracts. If the meaning behind the letters was the intended impact, the words alone would be appropriate.

If Coleridge had written Rime of the Ancient Mariner in MS Paint colored text of varied fonts, I'd imagine his poem would still be popular -- but every artist in the world would still remember him as "that guy that could write great stuff but needed to step away from a paintbrush".

And yes, you're right. I forgot to recommend GIMP. I never particularly took to the program when I used it, so my immediate suggestion was Photoshop.

It doesn't really distract. It's just there, it's just the first thing you notice but I don't consider it a distraction all that much. I will admit it looks like it was designed by a teenager or some sort and who's to say it wasn't? I don't think these people who upload this design the pictures. They just take them in and post them. A kid could've sent that into submission for all we know of.

The general populace who allows this poorly created tripe to continually make front page?
