i wonder if the "I need you to be happy" in this case is meant as "i need you (in order to be happy)", or "it's important to me that you are happy" ("...you being happy")...
i'll spare you from further commenting, as i know how it feels from personal experience, and i also know how this can damage the relationship, even when it's so full of love...
you have to browse many comments full of disrespect to find the helpful ones- it's like digging in the dirt looking for the diamonds;]
