it's okay. pets can be loved just as much.. I don't see why most people think differently.. :l I mean family doesn't necessarily have to be blood-related anyway, right? so yeah.

I'm so sorry for your loss :(. People who say you shouldn't miss your pet are morons, he was a big part of your life and probably of your family. So you have every right to miss him.

Also, I'd like you to know that I tell my dogs everything as well :).

Our pets are our family, you have every reason to miss them when they're gone! They know when you're sad or angry and know when you need support or a laugh and they're always there with you. Anyone who says it's stupid to miss an animal is cruel.

You should never feel bad about missing a pet. They're as much a part of the family as anyone else and they love us even more unconditionally. My dog Sasha used to cuddle with me when I got home from school and listen while I talked to her, and she would bark when she noticed something in the house that didn't seem to belong or when someone was at the door. She was always looking out for us and I felt much better when I had to be home alone knowing she was around. She died 3 years ago and my whole family misses her terribly. We have her ashes in a box with a plaque on it in my parents' room with her photo and a few labrador figurines around it, and every now and then we reminisce about her and the great times we had with her. Just today I was looking at pictures of her and me and I wanted to cry. :tears: I may get another dog someday, but Sasha will always be the most special to me. So the point of my rant is that it's perfectly natural to miss your pet and I and tons of other people can relate to your feelings.

Why shouldn't you miss him? Whoever says an animal isn't important has never truly loved an animal - and because they don't want to feel bad about it, they don't want to feel abnormal, they turn it around and say that you're the weird one. Why shouldn't you miss a family member just because he wasn't a human?

When I had these plants, I used to whisper things to them. But then they died, too. After a while, though, it was okay. So just wait, it's okay to miss him until then.

Your feelings are very, very valid. Our animals hold a part of us, and they give us everything we give them and more.

I lost a pet last year, and I still cry to this day. Grief is grief, no matter the recipient. And though our animal friends pass away, the pawprints they leave on our hearts never fade.

My condolences... I know how this feels. Pets or any animals at all can often become best friends... One of my closest friend's lost her Rabbit 2 years ago, and she couldn't tell anyone because it upset her too much. When she finally told me, I understood what she meant- her Rabbit and her had gone through so much together, they'd grown up together. Her best friend actually was her pet...
Just keep hanging in there. Maybe try giving the animal a burial- it helps to settle the pain- and remember them not as an animal or pet, but as a friend.

I'm sorry about your loss, whether it be by death or giving away, of your pet.
No matter what kind of animal it was, it's not wrong or weird to miss them when they're gone. They may not understand a word we say, but they're still our friends and family and they do love you too.
If it makes you feel any better, I still miss my first dog and it's been around 14 years. I miss our litter of kittens we adopted out because the owners put them down or out. I miss one of the cats we recently got rid of despite our love-hate relationship.

You should definitely miss him. Humans are 'just animals' too, you know. A bond is a bond, even if it's not between two people, but a person and an animal. I know my cat is always happy to see me and would miss me if I went away. There's no reason why we shouldn't miss them too when we lose them.

I get it. I had a rabbit once, and I had him from the age of 8 to 16. When I was sad or upset I used to get him out the cage and hug him, tell him all my problems and cry. He was my best friend ndont even now, 11 years later and I still miss him. He was my best friend. This sums up my feelings about my pet. Leave it a couple of months and get another, it sounds like you have a lot of love to give and it would be a shame to waste that, I wish I had. *Big Huggles* X

I can totally relate. My dad left me and my mom when I was little and we had this big, macho cat named Griffen. I always felt like Griffen was more of a father than any human could be. That cat helped raise me and now he's gone. I always feel like he's still watching over me and giving me disapproving looks as a ghost. It's okay to miss an animal. After all, if you made enough of a connection to miss them, they are worth the pain of missing them. And I'm sure that they'll always still be in your heart. No matter what.

That's perfectly normal to miss an animal. I have a dog I feel the same way about we put down six years ago, and it feels like just yesterday I was hugging him around the neck on the floor and whispering to him. I've made it known that he was probably one of the greatest loves of my life, and when we put him down, I lost one of my best friends. Actually... Tearing up talking about him, still. >.<; I'm so sorry for your loss.... It gets a little easier, over time, but please don't think it's silly to miss an animal this much. We can form strong bonds an connections with them, some times there's just a special "click" and they transcend from pet to friend. So... You're not being silly. You're just mourning a friend. And... That's all right to do. And if you look here, at this comment, and the ones before it, there are lots of people to support you during this difficult time.

Why do you think you shouldn't miss him? They were a serious part of your life, a companion, and you obviously loved them...and you know they loved you. Don't let other people tell you it's wrong to miss a pet, no matter what kind it was, some people just don't understand the bond between pets and humans sometimes. My dogs had to be put to sleep over four years ago, I still mourn them. They still have a place on the alter during The Day of The Dead as well, they are remembered on their birthday, and they are remembered on the day of their passing....it's therapeutic for humans to mourn.

Don't get me wrong, it shouldn't be an all encompassing part of your life now, but it'll take time to 'move on,' just don't let someone else (or even your own thoughts on death) hold you back from going through the grief process.

Animals are so much better than most humans in so many ways. You are right to miss him. I'm sorry for your loss.

I know it sounds very callous, but you should get a new one. It will not care if you miss the old one. It will also listen when you talk about it. You'll be surprised how many loves a single heart can hold.

Humans are animals, were just very advanced compared to others, but that doesn't mean it's wrong to miss them! I cried for days when pet died. I still miss her even if it's been many years. Although it gets better with time.

They can be a big part of a person's life and it's not hard to form a close relationship with them. Sometimes they can be even more loyal or loving than humans so its not uncommon to treat them as good friends. Not everyone can understand such a bond, although i pity them, for it's quite a lovely thing.

I'm sorry for your loss
