I don't know how I'll feel when my dogs - dogs that I have had since I was a child - die.

I don't want to know. Ever.

Sure, they can be mother-of-freaking-god annoying, but... I still love them.

This one breaks my heart. My black kitty named Buddha passed away two years ago at 16 (I adopted him when he was 1). He saw me through Junior High, High School, College, and then lived with my husband and me. I think about him a lot. I still can't get myself to move on enough to adopt a new kitty.

We had a dog we rescued, he had 3 legs and was named pogo. Anyways, we never have animals in the pool, so it was uncovered well, he accidently fell in and....drowned.

Not to be rude, but someone needs to grow up and realize that nothing lasts forever. My dog is 13 years old today and that is 4 years older than dogs her size get, I know that any day now can be her last and even if I dont want her to die, I know that some day she will and she will be greatly missed.

Same- my cat seems so young , I know cats can live up to twenties... but...

I'm even more anxious about my dog. Dogs normally die in their teens, my dog is 7 1/2 (i think) I don't know how to live without her.
Yellow-Sarah Featured By Owner Nov 12, 2012   Artist

greece-nekococo Featured By Owner Apr 30, 2012
I just tell my kitty everyday that he's not allowed to die before me :)

I know what you feel: neither I want a pet to grow up and I certainly don't want them to grow old and die. I hate it that pets don't live as long as people...

:( My mum told me my cat is 7 this morning, I almost cried, he is the closest pet I've ever had and I don't want him to get old ;__;
WillowWindSong Featured By Owner Apr 18, 2011  Student General Artist
I know how that is. We had a beautiful cat that we adopted as a kitten when I was nine. We think he was a long haired Abyssinian, everything about him scream pure bred. He was really sick, but we got him healthy, took such good care of him and it seems it reflected into his personality because he'd come check on us if we acted like we were sick and attempt to take care of us. He seemed so human.

About a year ago he started to look rough, and if he was pure bred nine is about the average lifespan. He'd always slept in my bed until I got a bunk bed, and couldn't get up easily on his own. One night he climbed into my bunk bed all by himself and sat beside me purring the whole night. The next day he sat in the driveway to watch as my mom drove me to school and that was the last time I ever saw him. We think that night had been his way of saying goodbye and that he'd been happy. I can't remember crying harder in my life than when I realized he'd likely gone off to die.

My kitty is also black.
And to be perfectly honest, I love him more then most humans.
He was there when no one else really was.

We called our cat Peg 18 for about 4 or 5 years. We don't know how she got so old, but she eventually got cancer and we had to put her down. Just remember, cats can live a pretty long life. Just keep him healthy!
XenophobicMonkey Featured By Owner Aug 17, 2009
My fatcat Moris has been 12 for a while now, I wish he still had the extra eight lives.
Hizaku Featured By Owner Aug 15, 2009
This brought tears to my eyes.
I've been saying my cats are '4 1/2 and 5' for about four years now.
I don't know who I'd be without them.
I can't stand the thought of them getting old and dying.
Ninja-Rosette Featured By Owner Jul 19, 2009
Me too. I got him when I was fourteen. Now I'm almost nineteen.
He's two years old. He's two years old.

My cat is going on 10, and I recently moved across the country for uni and couldn't take her with me. I'm so worried about something happening to her while I'm gone, I actually lose sleep. ._. I was sad about leaving my parents, but even more sad about leaving her, afterall, I could explain the situation to my parents, but to my cat, one day I was there, and then the next day I wasn't. T_T
truepenny Featured By Owner Jun 5, 2009  Hobbyist Writer
Well, maybe he'll live really long. My cat is turning 16 this year, and my vet says he thinks she might even make it past 20. It's possible - just keep him healthy!

I know what you mean though. I'll be so sad when my cat dies since she's been around since I was 6, and I can't really remember much before that anyway. It'll be so weird when she's gone, so I'm just trying to cuddle with her whenever I can!
Heavy-hearted Featured By Owner Jun 2, 2009
Cats can live to be 20.. So it's okay.

Our rabbit is already older than it's supposed to be, maybe it will be the same for your cat. :)
Mikka-lea Featured By Owner Jun 6, 2007
I do the same thing with my dog Manuel, he's 10, and the average lifespan for his breed is 9-10 years, he's got no teeth and arthritis in all of his legs. It's winter and he's in constant pain. I cry when I hold him, even though he smells terrible. (no matter how many times we wash him) I don't know how I'll live without my baby boy.

I love my little puppy.
BerylAlexandros Featured By Owner May 30, 2007
I know... I never want a pet to grow up and I certainly don't want them to grow old and die. I hate it that pets don't live as long as people; it just seems wrong somehow, like if children always died before their parents. Sometimes I do keep on thinking pets are younger than they are because I don't really want to think about them aging. I'm not sure if that's really better, though, because then when you do finally have to face the fact that they're getting old it's comes as a bigger blow.

Keep in mind at least cats can live quite a while... he could easily have many good years left. And when he does die, I'll hope you'll be able to find comfort in the knowledge that you loved him and took good care of him.

My oldest cat is almost 13, has feline HIV, is terribly skinny, and some how she's still alive. You'd be surprised...some cats really do have 9 lives.
