It's 'art' like this that is making me lose hope in this 'artistic' community.

I understand why people on this site are mad that this made it to the front page- I see things on the front page a lot that are kitschy or poorly made, and I feel cheated, not for me (as I am not in the top tier of artists here) but for under-appreciated people on here trying to get some constructive critiques, and there's not only many other pieces but many other secrets I think are more original and artistic than this one.
Even so, I may have made some mental defense for ST just based on the fact that it's not her fault this got to the front page, despite not caring for the secret as a whole. However, I read through the comments, and I must say it quickly squashed that desire.

So I have a couple of things to say:
1) This is a public forum, key word being PUBLIC. People are allowed to say whatever they want, period. Keeping that in mind,

2) Criticism isn't always an attack. Yes, things got a little personal in these comments, but a lot of it seemed to stem from the fact that people got so disproportionately offended by people's criticism.

3) Trolling isn't a good way to make yourself seem mature, and yes, here I'm mostly talking to the ST. ST, your comments were not insightful, they were not shaming, they were not mature. For someone claiming to be 21, you're acting like someone in high school. Saying things like "You don't know me/my situation," "Haters gonna hate," "Make me a sammich," and prompting an argument you often finish by being outright rude is not a way to gain support or respect- and if you say you don't care, then you really shouldn't have created an alt account and proceeded to reply to everyone who didn't agree with you or care for your secret.

4) People trying to defend this secret by saying DAS is like PostSecret should keep this in mind: PostSecret doesn't accept everything. DAS does. And there is a vast difference in the quality of the secrets and their artistic value.

5) This is, at the end of the day, an ART SITE. It's supposed to be a forum for art. When I first discovered DAS, I was excited to see something like PostSecret. I quickly became bored of the repetitive, often whiny secrets with no thought in their production (or purposefully over- dramatic production), a trend which seems to have grown greatly since I started following quite a long time ago. So when people get mad at things they don't consider art, I cannot get mad at them for it. This site is a great idea because it's meant to be a place that you can come, despite your talent, and share your work to get ideas and criticism. But this secret isn't artistic. It's not special. And that's not the point of DAS, I know, but neither is making an alt to argue with people about the validity of your feelings, or to troll people who don't agree with your opinions.
