At the risk of sounding completely insensitive, and as someone who has dealt with living with an grandfather who hates my guts, my parents divorce and several cases of unrequited love, I will tell you this, but be careful because it's sounds absolutely crazy. (I'm not even using sarcasm. I've had people tell me this when I was in situations like this and I thought they were crazy.)
You have the choice to be happy. Every single day you have the choice to be happy.
Of course I learned quickly it also helps not to have depression and an extremely pessimistic view on life. And while I'm not pushing religion in this instance, it did end up making me happy, but I think part of that was because it really put my life in focus. I mean sure...I thought my life was falling apart, but I had a warm house and food and an education, and I wasn't always going to be in that position. It took a while, and I'm definitely not where I planned to be but it gets better. And perhaps one day, like me, you won't completely dread Christmas.
