As a smoker, I can assure you that people will find out. Also, it's always better when they do know and you don't have to hide. Also, if you have just started, PLEASE STOP RIGHT NOW! It is very addictive! I can't stress this more!

My old friend started because of her boyfriend and now she's doing heavy drugs because of her boyfriend. That's just some kind of dumb.

If you feel like you have to change yourself to be with your bf, then it's not a healthy relationship. Infact, it's classified as abusive. Think about your priorities.

You're screwing your lungs over, just so you know.
(Make a list of all the little things in life that you love, and do one every day. For example: yoga, hot tea, and old black-and-white movies like The Grand Hotel and Casablanca. It might help you through if you ever decide that your life is worth more than that, because lung cancer could be a very real issue of yours down the road.)

Well, I'm pretty sure your parents know, especially if you live with them and don't do your own laundry. very person who smokes reeks of smoke, so it's harder to hide than you think xD

And also, if I were you, I'd quit. You've just started, so it isn't hard. And smoking will find ways to ruin you.

I never smoked, and I'll hopefully never do, cause my grandfather died due to lung cancer after smoking for more than 40 years, despite he used to be a soldier and quite a healthy man. And I recommend you to not turn this in a habit; smoking makes your mouth, clothing and skin to stink, it yellows your teeth and smoking hand, plus you'll have an unpleasant heavy sensation in your lungs. Besides, smoke ain't fashionable anymore. ;)

When I started smoking I kept it secret and was like 'OMG I am the smoking ninja'

Then when I eventually told my parents they were like 'Yeah, we know.' You will smell of the smoke, maybe not much if you chew gum and wash your hands, but even a hint if=s normally enough to give you away.

Quit while you can.
Smoking does not equal end of the world but still.
If I were you, I'd try to stop my boyfriend from smoking instead of doing it myself lol.
If long term effects such as lung damage don't really bother you, then, with the mass media pushing it down our throats so much, you probably care a lot about your self image, how you look and how you appear in other people's eyes.
Smoking has short term effects such as smelly breath, yellow teeth etc. And if you smoke for a bit longer period of time and only by then you wanna quit, 99% of the people I saw do so probably replaced cigars with food or something, but they gained weight in windspeed. Not to mention that, at least in my opinion, you probably won't stay hidden when you smoke after you tell your parents. And if you happen to blow smoke in someone's face or close to someone... trust me, that is damn straight disturbing.

Do you really think it’s "cool" to smoke? Seriously, all it does is breaking your lungs and making you smell. I hate smokers, they taste like shit, look silly and have to go outside every time they neeeee tooo smooooke. The only people, whom are allowed to smoke, are the cowboys in the Marlboro ads. :XD:

No offense, but I hate people like you. You might be respectable now and only smoke in private or in secluded areas downwind from other people, but eventually you'll see that there are a lot of people who smoke like douchebags and blow the smoke into other people's faces and you'll cave into peer pressure AGAIN and join the crowd. Smokers who think that they're not that douche? They often are.

Please note that I am not saying this as an attack to you as you are now, but as an attack to the person I'm afraid you'll become. Because honestly? The scent of it affects me so strongly that I cannot breathe when I'm within 3 feet of someone who smokes say, half a pack a day, even if they're not smoking. I don't care if you continue with your habits or not, but I sincerely hope you at least respect the wishes of those who want to breathe smoke-free air.

Fun fact: when outdoors in a city, the high percentage car exhaust fumes in the air is a much greater carcinogenic than the thirty seconds of second hand smoke from someone three feet away from you.

In today's society, you're unlikely to breathe any 'smoke-free air', unless where you live is in the arsehole of nowhere.

Note: I wasn't talking about carcinogens, but rather about scents. If one is horribly allergic to cigarette smoke in particular, it doesn't matter if car fumes are worse to everyone else.

And I know, but do smokers really have to add to it?

But hey, thanks for pointing out the obvious.

Aww... :huggle:

Why would you think you're the only one? Smoking is a horrible habit and a waste of money (and natural resources). It's not much, but just imagine if all the land dedicated to growing tobacco were used to grow some food staple. We'd save people from smoking themselves into a cancery death and we could save people from starvation! (I know, ridiculously idealistic, but still.)

Well, I know it affects others, but I've never met anyone who it affects half as much as me, and even doctors have told me that I'm an extreme. I basically can't talk when people are doing smoking/anti-smoking arguments, because I have so strong of feelings that people don't take me seriously :(. Because literally, smokers are keeping me from managing to have a day-to-day life. I can't go out to eat. I can't sit at a coffee shop and work, I can't go grocery shopping without being in constant pain, it ruined my GPA in college, ruined my GREs, and is keeping me from being employable or able to pursue the graduate school I want to.

But of course, someone's addiction matters more than my life :(.

Haha. Vegetarian here too, though for ethical reasons. So I'm willing to eat meat that's actually hunted down, especially with bow and arrow.

Self-sufficient but with Internet? :XD: I suppose that's only sometimes important. Anyhow, good luck with your life!

Well, we're not self-sufficient yet, but yes, internet is that important. I mean, its not like he's not getting his computer science masters degree currently. It's kinda funny.

The thing you need to note with being vegetarian like you are, is that after a period of time, you lose the (mostly) ability to digest meat, so it doesn't matter if you want to eat meat you've hunted after being effectively veg for 10 years, doing so will make you vomit.

People are being total closeminded asses about this, so I'm sorry.
You smoke. So? Plenty of people do. I won't lecture you, because if you carry this much guilt to send in this, clearly you know the risks. Keeping secrets like that is rough though. It really is. Be careful and don't do it often. You'll get caught and addicted if you do.

Smoking is not good, takes up all of your money and is just really bad for you. I am also a smoker and have been for a very long time. Your young body will be ravaged with the poison of it turning you unhealthy and ugly so i suggest you quit while you can.
If you insist on smoking i suggest you increase your Vitamin C intake and implement a tight all-over skin care regime. Exercise too to keep your lungs and heart active and healthy, at least as healthy as a smokers can be.
Your lungs will still rot with time..there is no remedy for that. i dont really care what you do,,im just trying to pass on some helpful advice and i suggest you take it.
You smoke = death
Take my advice = death
Quit smoking....youll still die but there might be somthing prettier to bury..also you will be less of a burden on your poor family by not leaving them crazy hospital bills.
Whatever your vice...take the healthy route if applicable. If your boyfriend starts doing meth...i suggest you break up, you lemming.

Well... smoking isn't the greatest thing in the world. But it's also not the worst... I mean, they're terrible. Don't get me wrong there. You should quit as soon as you can. But I know that I can say that all I want, and you've probably heard it a million times before hand, so it really does no good saying it here, right?

Anyway, if you're going to keep smoking your family and friends will find out eventually. Your parents probably won't be happy about it, and probably get angry with you, but they'll have to find out eventually. Everyone will. It's not exactly something you can hide. It's best to just get it out there and in the open.

And also... nobody will HATE you for smoking, so if that's what you're worried about, don't? Lol. But I do advise that you quit, life will be so much easier if you do.

Why did your boyfriend make you start smoking? If you're okay with him smoking, that doesn't mean you have to, too. And if he cares about you, he should respect the fact that you don't want to stink, taste like an ashtray, or give yourself cancer.
