Another vegetarian here.
My family's totally traditional and all meat-loving. First I had problems but now they respect me - although I still have to eat side-dishes. But actually they shouldn't be called that way, they're delicious and satisfying.

Just let him know it's not him, it's just a personal preference.

I've been a vegetarian since I was 9, and it was completely by choice. I just didn't find meat that appetizing, because the concept was a bit unsettling for me. Yes, I need to eat different stuff, but I don't make a big deal about meat. People can eat it around me, I'll cook it, say it looks good or smells good, but if someone asks if I want a bite, I say, "No thanks." and leave it there.

He'll respect it's your own preference, not being against him.

Do it, ST, tell him. It's who you are, you can't change, both your parents will understand! I'm sure your father doesn't want to force you to eat meat just because his job happens to be the one of a butcher c:

I completely understand you. But I say: Go for it. If it’s what makes you feel better do it. I mean, just because he’s a butcher doesn’t mean you need to eat meat.

I’m a vegetarian although I eat meat that had a happy life. But the more I think about it I don’t want to eat any meat anymore. Because a whole life of an animal just goes away, it has to suffer pains and stuff, for what? A minute of happiness on a human’s tongue? I guess that’s not really fair...

And just yesterday when I was at a restaurant (not a very good one...) I ordered something from the vegetarian-stuff. But what did I get? Mushrooms with a suace that had bacon in it. Great. :(

Just because he's one doesn't mean that he wouldn't allow you to go vegetarian.
It's his job sweety, that doesn't mean it's a rule for you to eat it.
Maybe talk about it to your mother first? And then tell your dad? Good luck =)

I'm a vegetarian too, and planning on turning to veganism (after a little research.. last time i went vegan had... bad consequences). It's just something that people have to get used to, and you might be surprised that others may even have a new respect for you! I've had a couple of people come up to me saying how great it is that i am a vegetarian (I don't know why though lol). All you can do is just calmly explain that being a vegetarian is something you believe in :)
Good luck

I went for almost a year without telling ANYONE that I was vegetarian. I was so afraid of being judged. I feel for you, St, but just know that it gets a heck of a lot easier if you do tell.
